J-BILAT 2012 Seminar No.5

EU-Japan cooperation and various phases of Science, Technology and Innovation – Sharing vision and scope for reinforcement of reciprocity

Background and Objectives

The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, founded 25 years ago, has been promoting Japanese participation in the EU’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7) through the J-BILAT project since January 2010. Three years since the start, there have been many important movements have been observed, including the publication of the 4th Science and Technology Basic Plan of Japan, official proposal for HORIZON2020 by the EC, as well as the ratification of the EC-Japan Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement and launch of EU-Japan coordinated calls for collaborative R&D projects. As one of the big changes, we note that Great East Japan Earthquake and disasters triggered by it, lead to, e.g., creation of swifter funding modalities by foreign and Japanese funding organizations (J-RAPID).

In this final event to be organized by J-BILAT, various aspects and phases of EU-Japan cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) will be reviewed with the objective of sharing visions towards further reinforcement of the EU-Japan cooperation in STI.
